The real question...
Now comes the real question about the memos showing George W. Bush got preferential treatment in the Texas Air Guard:
Was CBS in so much of a hurry to come up with a scoop nailing Bush that they didn't check out the memos that may well have been written on a computer word processing program that didn't exist when Bush served in the guard?
Good question. Although proportional spacing and New Times Roman did exist in the late 60s and early 70s and were available on IBM Selectric typewriters, there were not generally present in National Guard offices.
But they could have been. That's the crux of the debate now dominating the news. Instead of focusing on whether or not the future President of the United States received preferential treatment, the question is whether or not the documents produced are real or not.
Consider this as a scenario: Bush's political strategists know memos that show preferential treatment exist. The only way to counter such devastating news is to reproduce the memos using more modern technology and set up CBS.
Possible? Yes. Probable. Good question.
