American Newsreel is a no-holds-barred, just-for-the-hell-of-it web site/blog of Doug Thompson, a photographer, journalist and political operative who started the Web's oldest political news web site, Capitol Hill Blue, in 1994.

Besides Blue, Thompson also publishes Blue Ridge Muse, a community news blog, FloydCounty.Com, a news and information web site, Road Kill Diaries, his motorcyble blog, and DougThompson.Com, a personal web site and blog.  Blue Ridge Muse is also a studio and gallery in Floyd, VA, where Thompson also runs Blue Ridge Photography and Buffalo Mountain Films, a company that produces documentaries and provides video production and editing services.

Thompson and his wife Amy, a retired actress and model, left Washington after 23 years in the center of power and politics and moved to the Blue Ridge Mountain community of Floyd, Virginia, a haven for musicians, writers and artists.  Floyd is the home of the internationally-famous Friday Night Jamboree.
