Dubya Takes Another Vacation

President Bush is off on another vacation (even though some think his brain has been on vacation for years). He plans to be gone for five weeks which will break Richard M. Mixon's 30-year-old record for the longest Presidential vacation.

David Letterman had some choice things to say about Dubya's plans:

“President Bush is taking his summer vacation. It's a five-week vacation. He has taken his 50th vacation in the last five years, 50th vacation. That's about the national average, isn't it?”

“But while he's on vacation, he will continue to receive national security briefings. He will receive them, of course he won't read them. But he will receive them.”

“President Bush's vacationing in Crawford, Texas. He will be there for five weeks. That's really a long time. You know, I don't think Bush has an exit strategy for his vacation either.”

This is Bush's 50th vacation as President. He has already taken more vacations in five years of his presidency than the previous record holder -- Ronald Reagan -- did in eight years.

On a more serious note, The Roanoke Times said it best:

President Bush should abandon his vacation and head to Brook Park, Ohio, and attend the military funerals of those Marines. He should see, and allow the public to see, the flag-draped coffins of just a few of the 1,828 service men and women killed in Iraq.
